Enterprise Data Platform - Project OneLake
The client required implementation support to design and deliver a centralised, secure, and scalable enterprise data platform on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, enabling governed self-service analytics and cross-functional reporting across Retail and Residential business units. The initiative establishes a single source of truth using a Medallion architecture and a reusable semantic layer to standardise KPIs and accelerate dashboard delivery.
Identifying the unique obstacles that hinder progress and uncovering the root causes behind complex business problems.
Creating a single enterprise analytics repository to replace fragmented data warehouses and reporting systems across Retail and Residential business units was the primary requirement.
Standardising KPI definitions and reporting logic to eliminate metric mismatches across departments was critical to ensuring consistent, trusted reporting across the organisation.
Onboarding priority source systems — including Yardi, Oracle Fusion, Salesforce, Maximo, footfall systems, surveys, and manual files — into one governed platform required complex integration planning.
Implementing role-based access control and row-level security to ensure users see only authorised data was a key security and compliance requirement for the platform.
Ensuring data quality and reconciliation — addressing duplicates, missing records, and business-rule violations — was essential to building trusted, reliable reporting for executive teams.
Developing strategic, innovative solutions designed to address each challenge with precision, ensuring measurable impact and long-term success.
Established Microsoft Fabric and OneLake as the unified enterprise data foundation, implementing Medallion Architecture using Delta tables for controlled data progression.
Built standardised ingestion pipelines for database, API, and file sources with full and incremental load patterns into Bronze, ensuring reliable and timely data availability.
Applied cleansing, standardisation, and business rules in the Silver layer to create integrated datasets, then delivered curated Gold data products aligned to reporting and analytics needs.
Created a semantic model layer — covering KPIs, measures, and hierarchies — to enable consistent, reusable BI consumption and prevent metric redefinition across teams.
Implemented security-by-design with workspace separation, RBAC and RLS patterns, governed publishing, and validation monitoring including quality checks and exception reporting.
Delivering tangible results that drive operational efficiency, data trust, and sustained business value for the organisation.
OneLake as a single logical data lake simplified governance and reduced duplication and latency by enabling Shortcut patterns across domains.
Direct Lake mode enabled near-import performance with lightweight refresh behaviour, resulting in faster dashboards at scale for executive teams.
End-to-end traceability through Microsoft Purview and Fabric improved data lineage visibility and governance controls across all source systems.
A standardised semantic KPI layer prevented redefinition of metrics across teams, ensuring consistent, trusted insights across Retail and Residential functions.
Medallion separation supported a maintainable operating model with controlled change management, easier troubleshooting, and a future-ready foundation for advanced analytics and AI enablement.
